All of The Amazing Sights & Flavors of New York

Entrance to the Empire State Building. We didn't go up because it was a cloudy, rainy day.

Our trip to New York was fun!  My husband and I lived Brooklyn for two years 2000-2002.  We had not been back there to visit since 2005 when our son was one years old.

We were there for 4 days and got to see a lot. I wish we had a little more time there because I didn't get to see everything I wanted.  But we took in many of the sights and flavors of New York City!

We stayed at the Doubletree in Manhattan.  It's in a great location.  The room was clean and the service great, but the room was incredibly small for 4 people.  We were tripping all over each other.  Luckily we weren't in the room much.

Some highlights of our trip were walking down Fifth Avenue and stopping at 30 Rockefeller Center, visiting the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and the American Museum of History. And of course we went to Central Park!

 The Flavors

In Brooklyn and visited with relatives and my best friend, Faith.  Faith and I had a wonderful meal at Shane's Brooklyn and we shopped local at Brooklyn Flavors. Brooklyn Flavors has soaps, candles, skin care, etc. with the scents of the different neighborhoods in Brooklyn.  I bought a soap with the essence of Prospect Park.

We also enjoyed our first taste of Shake Shack!  Like I said earlier, there was so much to see and do.  I wish I read this blog post from World of Wanderlust before our trip.   This post is a weekend guide to New York City.  She's a lot better at seeing a lot for a short period of time than we are.  You can read her post here.

Review of the Day Come Dine With Me

I got addicted to Come Dine With Me while living in England. It's a show about amateur chefs who host a dinner party. At the end of the evening the person is given points from 1 to 10 on their dinner party hosting skills and food. The person with the most points win. The winner gets a £1,000 prize.

The show is now on BBC America on Tuesdays at 10pm Eastern 9pm Central. It is very different than the show I watched in England. When I watched it back then it was on for 30 minutes 5 days a week. Now, it's on for an hour and there are only 4 contestants instead of 5. I still like the show, but when it was on 5 nights you got to get to know the contestants better, see more of the meal prep and check out their houses. Now, you see very little meal prep, they usually just let you see the other contestants wander around one person's home and you really don't get to know them as well as you would if you had an half hour with each contestant. The only thing that has really remained the same is the voice-over man Dave Lamb. He is funny, sarcastic and can be mean sometimes, but the show would not be the same without him.

Still one of the best shows on TV.

Review of the Day: Sabra Hummus

Ok, here's a review that's more of a recommendation. I have tried many different types of hummus. I have found the best one on the market. It's called Sabra. You've probably seen the commercial where the people are supposedly on a Mediterranean vacation, but they are really in their backyard. Because eating Sabra is just like being on a Mediterranean vacation. It's so true. This hummus is creamy, tasty and never too spicy. My favorite flavor is the Roasted Pine Nut, but it comes in other flavors too: Roasted Red Pepper, Classic, Greek Olive and many others. I accidentally picked up the Greek Olive instead of the Pine Nut today, but I don't mind because it's so good. I could eat it right out of the package with a spoon;-) Check out their website and see all the flavors of hummus and other products they have. http://www.sabra.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=ppc&utm_term=sabra&utm_campaign=brand_brand

Liberte Yogurt

Just a quick post on this yogurt I found in the Jewel.  I don't usually eat Greek yogurt.  Actually I'm trying to do a vegan diet to lose weight, but I had to find this yogurt for my job.  They want us every week to find new items, take the pictures of them and then upload the pics to them.  But I digress. I decided to try the yogurt because it was only a dollar and I've heard that Greek yogurt is very good.  First of all it's much thicker than regular yogurt.  I got the Date and Fig flavor.  I don't know if it's something I would try again.  Maybe it's because it's date and fig.  They also had coconut, lemon and a few other flavors.  If it's still on sale I might try another flavor, but for now...I will pass.
